September's moon

September's moon

left too soon

blew a kiss

into the autumn gloom

before fading, waving

into the misty view.

Year blinking

through time's

tears as they drop

falling from her luna eye

into the river of days

that swept right by.

I look at the dates

as they flip past.

A flip book collage

of memories

cast onto my eyes,

and I wonder where they went.

When did they begin to fade?

When did they drift away

into the distant rain?

I lament.

the way days shuffle off

in flaked moments,

yet the years keep adding

layers to my already

thickened skin.

September's moon,

a momentary tune played

in the background

of the soundtrack

to a short fictitious

art house movie

that bursts to life

in my flickering

dreamlike head

before fading into obscurity

in a final fade to red.

My heartbeat still resonates

with the story, twin flames

flickering eternally,

twisting their flames together

in a moment of pure beauty.

That sullen September moon

crept out in the night,

I didn’t hear her go,

just a blink of an eye

as the calendar flowed.

Pages torn, fell to the floor,

for September had gone.

Walked out of the door.

I wept, a saddened tear,

for her passing,

knowing it would be another year

before she'd once again glance in.

I wept for the memories,

I said goodbye to yesterday

but now August has come to stay,

and she has brought

her ghosts out to play.
