Along The Fosse Way

Along the Fosse way
Romans walked their paths back in the day
we chase histories
car park kings and mystery
in this our city, always the same
Semper Eadem, Leicester its name

Passing the guildhall, the cathedral high and tall
a short stint through the market stalls
towards the clock tower where we congregate
under the gaze of De Montfort, the perfect place to meet our mates
then the night is ours
a world alive with clubs and bars
To dance until the sun rises
over the high cross, where shoppers search out new surprises

The old cobbled lanes, still some remain
places where time stood still, the sands in the hourglass never drain
in days gone by horse drawn carts would stroll past
or the bygone tramlines that didn't last
the old gateways, the city walls that used to stand
now just ruins, falling to the clocks turning hands
The buildings that shape our city, ever the same
just the window dressings that change

A city of joy, vibrant bright, like golden flames
a city of love, hope and open arms, this we proclaim
a place of diversity, four continents on one street
a place of dreams, to believe in the futures we seek
our city of golden miles, the city smiles
the centre of our land, one that shines throughout its trials
This city of hope, this place that I roam
Leicester always the same, this city I call home.

Thanks For Reading.
Peace and Love
Kyle.
