Scent

Salt air tingles the tongue,

felt so young, just strolling along.

Reminders of fish suppers

we ate on those hot evenings of summer,

when we walked barefoot on these sands.

Toes feeling the heat,

sparks flew when we touched hands.

The sun setting in honey-tinged bloom.

Our eyes, instead of looking out at the ocean,

looked only at each other,

like a dream come true.

The sinking sun dressed you in a sequined costume,

dazzling my eyes,

casting away shadows

that had blinded my sight.

In the sky the squark of gulls,

never ruined the mood.

Circling, flapping in search of food.

But we could only hear ourselves

and the waves of the ocean vast,

as I leant in to kiss at last.

The scent of perfume holds me in place,

flowers and smiles,

we embrace.

The sunlight now gone,

the lonely moon our companion.

As we held each other tight,

our lives truly began that one night.
