They are in the trees,
yellow eyes glaring out,
encircling me.
Everywhere I look,
another pair of vicious stares,
reading me like an open book.
Spin around, take to ground.
but you can't escape the snide eyes
that try to drag you down.
They are in the darkness.
In the shadows,
in every nook and cranny.
In every picture book,
everywhere I look.
It's uncanny.
They all stare with such hate.
They all stare,
like I'm a worm used as bait.
Footprints so big I could fall in.
6 foot deep,
perfect fit for a coffin.
Precariously I try to avoid the holes,
even as the death bell tolls.
Insidious leers they peer inside.
They peek to find the truth I hide.
Then twist and distort
to fill my heart with ice.
Circling, they sense fear.
I await, shaking away
the shards and spikes.
Where to turn?
Not alone
but I can't see anyone.
I can only feel the static in the air.
Making every single hair pay attention,
like they are making
their final preparations to run.
I step through this overgrown nightmare.
I feel a presence everywhere,
malevolent it fills the air.
In fear I run.
Run from the lies that burn,
eyes that turn inwards.
They stare, inside my mind.
Penetrating the soul I bare.
But where can you run?
The woodland only hides
even bigger beasts.
The pathway ahead?
To a dead end you'll be led.
Your best hope is to pinch yourself
and pray that you awaken in your bed.
Thanks for reading
