Gridlocked

Gridlocked

Traffic stopped

Stalled

Not moving forward

Not moving at all

Miles of horns blaring

Anger rising as the sun is glaring

Every inch we take

No change, red lights not giving way

A mile seems so far away

I want to be somewhere nice

Not in this exhaust fume cocoon

I want to be shipwrecked

Marooned

On a beachside paradise

Watching the sun as it bleeds into the deep sea

I'd rather be

Listing to entrancing tunes

As we sit beside mountainous sand dunes

Going nowhere

Taking forever to arrive

Seeing nothing but brake lights

As the sun bakes the insides

Sweat drenched eyes are blind to the sights

as the traffic in the other lane flies by

Instead of gasping

At the smog induced by car created pollution

I'd rather have a stay of execution

And sit idly by the water’s edge

Watching the waves crashing instead

Every inch we take

No change, red lights don't turn green

No beauty to be seen

Just smoky haze through which to gaze

Barely seeing the light of day fade into darkening greys

I want to be somewhere in a dream

Not here in this concrete nightmare scene

I want to be wrapped in the arms of moonlight

Not here under streetlights, blinded by headlights

Thanks for reading,

Peace, Love and Poetry.

Kyle.
