Summer Storm

Sweltering heat gives way to dark clouds.

Angry growls,

rumbling sounds.

Colour that was bright and vibrant,

gun metal grey now.

A drop of rain,

testing the waters.

Shouts out to the sky,

come forward its all ours.

The angry army of droplets surge down

People run, hiding from the torrents,

out of sight like rabbits in warrens.

Ducking and diving to stay undiscovered.

The sound of pelting water,

like gunfire over sheet metal covers.

The deluge doesn't want to slow,

invading, it marches to claim new land.

From green fields to open sands,

immersing the scorched ground below,

thirsty it tries to drink it in

but its too much, the ground is flooded.

Like missile explosions,

the spray in motion.

Puddle crater pockmarked pavements.

Rageful statements,

wrath of God, or the tears of angels.

The relentless army marches on,

drumming as they go.

Claiming land as their own,

swamping with waters that flow.

A brief respite from the precipitation,

sun breaks the clouds with a glow.

The angry hoard stops their assault,

evaporates the tension.

Colour returns, filled with anticipation

and up in the sky sits a rainbow.
