The moon was full,
I heard the howls.
Agonised screams
filled the tearful sky.
A dark mist did fall,
heart-breaking cries,
like walking through
ink-stained clouds.
I heard the growls.
The call of evil
from all around.
My heart raced,
beating through my chest
trying to escape.
This dreaded test,
ice cold fog clinging,
tightly sticking to my skin.
A startling sound
much bigger than a dog,
I could hear its paws
cracking bones like twigs.
Pawing the ground.
Faster
it began to pound.
Closer.
Closer.
It was getting near
but I only saw shadows
in misty fear,
twisted illusions
in the fog filled air.
A roar echoed.
Loud and so close.
I can almost smell its breath,
sour and full of death.
Then through the mist,
a furry limb,
sharp claws slicing deep
into my goosebumped skin.
And now it stands over me.
Tall and proud.
Howls at the moon
so very loud.
Buries his head against my neck.
Hot breath.Stomach sick.
A sound. A loud crack in the night.
Gunshots pierce the air.
The animal runs in fright.
But forever I’ll be
connected to him.
His pain flows freely
through my veins.
And when the moon is full
I'll be out on the prowl.
It's my curse forever.
This wolf will howl.
