I'm sure I've seen this in a movie before
and I'm sure it didn't end very nice,
something about a severed head in a vice.
So, what am I doing here? I'm glad you asked..
Let's go back to where this all started...
I was sat broken hearted.
The love of my life had departed
and I was alone. Torn apart,
broken into little more than stones.
Just tiny pieces of who I had been.
So, I did what came naturally to me.
I withdrew, sunk into the person I once knew.
I closed my doors. Pulled the curtains tight.
Turned off the lights and I withdrew.
Further into my head than I have ever been
and something miraculous happened.
I say miraculous, terrifying is a better word.
I opened my eyes again
and I was not in my room
but this empty house instead,
which has now become my tomb.
It seemed years had passed,
I'd grown a beard (at last)
and my skin was more wrinkled and weird than I remember.
This house had me in its grasp.
I couldn't leave. The door was open
but something was stopping me.
It kept pulling me to the big red door.
Now I've seen enough horror movies to know
that a door with an eerie feint glow
was basically a sign saying if you want to live then turn around and go.
But no, I'm stubborn and the door was intriguing.
So, I tried the handle, locked, of course
because it was a fucking great big red glowing door.
If it could scream in agony saying turn away,
it would.
If it could say in wept tears of blood, don't enter,
it would.
I'd still be too stupid to listen.
So I did what any intrepid ghost hunter would do.
Well, any that has played a PlayStation game or two
I explored the mansion, searching for clues.
The walls bled with angry words
and long forgotten memories.
The dread lingered in corners,
like the kind of people you find hanging around cemeteries,
all creepy and wraithlike.
Visions jumped in front of me to cause a fright
before vanishing in the blink of an eye.
Murmured cries, childlike laughter and lullabies,
This place had it all, in every corner, down every darkened hall.
But I had to be brave,
I wanted to see what was beyond the red door
even if it led to my grave,
which is undoubtedly would I'm sure
It was a big red creep door after all.
My misspent youth was finally paying dividends,
I avoided instant death and numerous dead ends.
Having just about enough haunted house intel
from many hours spent on resident evil.
I found a red key in a wishing well,
that I had to empty by moving some statues,
it didn't have to make sense.
And so here we are...
All caught up.
My hand on handle
of this big red door.
With a flick of the wrist, I twist
a hideous creak fills the air.
and I see my room sitting there.
I realise that if I can escape from here
I can walk proudly anywhere.
