Apparently, the world is ending again.

Apparently, the world is ending again.

It seems the apocalypse is on repeat.

I swear it ended in 2012

when the calendar sat unwritten,

we all melted under a supernova sun.

It was mostly fun

so, it will be sad

to see it all become atoms

in the mourning air.

I swear...

We've been here before

I’m sure death

was knocking on our door

When CERN pressed

the trigger on the world's core.

It seems the end days are looping,

a never-ending cycle of endings

wending their way through

our confused existence

just trying to find the beginning

like scratching at Sellotape

with no fingernails.

It is looming. Apparently.

Somewhere in the shade.

I swear we witnessed the world in flames

when heaven’s gate failed to open.

When Jonestown drank the poison down.

The afterlife seems

a bit of an afterthought,

we seem to just be caught in a loop

of bad news and cultist views.

The prophecy is written

in vanishing ink,

it blinks a date then

disappears into the breeze

to never be spoken of again.

But the end is coming...

They keep warning

and people keep falling

for the alarm bells calling.

How will it come?

A comet crashing us off course?

A galactic invasion force?

A monster from the depths?

A tidal wave of unexpected breadth?

Or maybe we will be raptured

floating to some other place?

It seems that this will be my last verse

as the end is coming to our universe.

Will it be Galactus coming to devour us?

I suppose I’ll never know

as I’ll sleep and wake up

long after the apocalypse

has been and gone

and I’ll go and walk

in the autumn sun.

Searching for words

to share from my heart,

even if I’m the last person

to walk this earth.

But in all seriousness

the end is coming

if we don’t look after

what we call home.

If we feed on hatred

instead of loving,

we risk becoming

the scythe in Death’s hand

swinging away the remaining days.

If we spend more time worrying

about income and flashy cars,

If we keep fighting unjust wars.

If we keep drilling our earth

for every last resource.

Then our time in the sun

will fade, I’m sure.
