Dark fog encroaches,
it approaches
taking bites out of reality.
The world drops out of focus,
like staring into a vast abyss,
as far as the eyes can see.
All is quiet, a menacing silence,
it surrounds your head,
it mimics violence.
I can barely see my arm
stretching out in front of me,
just a wall of nothingness,
a churning angry sea
of hunger,
hundreds of miles across.
Swirling darkness,
a distant ring of thunder.
Everything in its path torn asunder.
Behind I hear the crack of tree branches,
I was alone in this grand expanse,
but now something is lurking
and making its advance.
It is the fog,
chowing down on all in its way,
making light work of houses and buildings.
Trees and mountains are just an entree.
Vast chasms in the deepening darkness,
as the cold grey cloud devours the world,
like a fox with a chicken carcass.
It swirls and twists, distorting the horizon
warping my vision, it slowly flies in,
dining its way across the land.
Into the darkness all I see now is my hand.
Here underneath this spotlight
it’s getting much closer now.
Advancing in on my solitary island of sight,
consuming all before it.
All I can do is sit
await my fate.
The fog covers me,
now it is all too late.
