Lonely Ghost

It's all very lonely.

If only someone could see me.

I tried to throw some pots and pans,

but they just slipped through my hands,

or my hands slipped through them.

Dogs greet me,

cats. well they screech and claw.

I don't have to worry about doors anymore.

You see I'm invisible to most,

just a lonely ghost.

I appear sometimes, in the dead of night,

in the corner of your eye, just a shimmering sight.

I float by,

like dust upon the whistle of the wind.

I make hairs bristle,

I am the cold spot where the air has thinned.

As you shiver in fear.

I am the voice you sometimes hear.

moaning and crying in the middle of the night.

I don't mean to cause such fright.

When you see shadows

flittering through the walls,

If you feel eyes watching

or hear breathing in the halls.

The rattle of chains

or scratches down your windowpane.

That is just me.

Your lonely ghost floating by merrily.

Just reaching out for attention, affection,

a lost soul wishing for resurrection.

When it is dark,

that's when I like to play.

You don't get the same joy

haunting through the day.

I like to appear mysteriously,

then disappear just as quickly.

Just as you reach for your camera,

I like to drain its batteries.

This brings a smile to my see-through face,

as I await the doorway to my final resting place.

Every night at about this time,

I can be found,

just roaming the rooms.

Can be quite hard to see,

with it being dark

and me,

mostly translucent,

I blend in with the gloom.

Transient, I float around,

looking for someone to scare.

Not that I want to,

I'd rather bring happiness,

but when you are a sad lonely ghost

no one seems to care.
