Like a magician, he moves words
with a verbal flick of the wrist,
he twists the conversation
with a liquid fluidity.
Producing magic, he distracts,
you look one way, and he reacts.
Pulling the rabbit from the hat.
With each lyrical flurry
he befuddles and confuses.
Baffles with words designed to bemuse,
then with deftness starts to amuse.
Producing a verse,
where it came from nobody saw
sleight of hand, nothing more.
Just a magic trick,
the way he makes those words appear,
to make them stick,
seemingly from nowhere near.
Is he a word magician?
or just an able technician?
Transforming meanings,
he paints his heart,
tantalising feelings,
shown in art.
Producing something
from nothing at all.
Just a few magic words,
the audience enthralled.
Illusions to impress,
just a trick,
misdirection
nothing more, nothing less.
There is no magic spell,
no occult power
formed in the depths of hell.
Just words plucked with ink-stained fingers
from behind your ears.
For a while they linger,
before they quickly disappear.
