We are
impossible hearts,
beating in time
but ever so far apart.
Feeling each
rippling nerve twinge,
like waves
spreading across a vast pond.
Droplets of spray
soar into the airways, the cosmos,
the heavens above,
where they stay, forming tight bonds,
wavy liquid stars,
the very drops of our love,
lighting the heavens above
with twinkling sparks.
If I was born in
another storyline,
or I had turned left
a few times
instead of following
the right-hand line,
If you had shifted seats,
caught that train instead
of walking on blistered feet,
Would these hearts still
be holding hands?
Would they be embracing
in Disney inspired treasure islands,
and not these cities of dread?
You comfort my soul
when it's screaming inside.
You make me feel whole
when I’m only a quarter full,
because my river of hope has dried.
I feel your pull
every day and night,
like gravity showing me
loves true calling,
a majestic sight,
a magical light
beckoning me in.
I see you under
starshine awnings
But to get there I have to
cross a world
that's crumbling,
a sky that’s falling,
an ocean yawning,
before I can get to your side,
and let
your dawn of love get in.
