Skull and crossbones

You are wrong about us,

you think we don't care,

that our hearts aren’t open.

We listen to the oceans,

the screams held within,

we don't block the way,

we build a bridge.

You think we care

what flags are held in the air,

a skull and crossbones

would hold more trust

than our symbol of despair.

I don't look up with pride

at that cross

we are supposed to abide,

it just leaves an ache

in my stomach

distaste at the crimes

committed in its name.

You think we blame others

for our broken Isles,

when it's people like you

hammering home the nails.

You think we fear, but our sores

are not caused by open shores.

Our doors are always open,

unlike yours...

We welcome difference,

we learn, we grow.

You just sit in a bubble

of things you think you know.

I feel sorry for you, I really do.

So scared must you be

of all that you view.

Anything new

must terrify you.

You miss out

on all that this world can give,

the love that lives

when we all coexist.

Are you so scared

of becoming irrelevant?

That somehow

accepting others makes your

world less prevalent?

When you close off

the doors, build walls

block shores, you will be alone,

whilst the world carries on as before.
