In my mirror imagination
I’m blinded by the
light of a myriad suns,
all shining an inaudible song.
The words, felt deep within,
keep me warm.
The swirl of the air drifts me along.
I’m lifted through clouds,
across fields that, when young,
I would have run.
In the scattershot memories
that circle me here
like birds of prey ready to dine,
I see so many unfulfilled yesterdays.
But today I know I'm able to soar above
those dislodged souvenirs,
the reminders
of all the places I've been,
of all those days
I'd spend wishing would leave.
The memories I wish would let me be.
Now I see them starting to fall
as my wings
have finally started growing
and I can fly above it all.
Finally I can breathe.
I see the pain.
A sea with tidal waves
surging towards
the sandcastle lands.
I want to turn away,
but the view has me
transfixed
somewhere betwixt
a dream and reality
where I'm no longer sure
that the me I see in memory
still exists.
I swoop towards the floor,
then soar higher than before.
The sea touches the shore,
and I'm sure I see yesterday
fade into nevermore.
The me that once
walked those sands,
a lost boy, with hurt pouring
like water through his hands,
can now fly
as he has found
his peace with life.
