Life flows down Queens Rd
as the scent of Korean bowls
sits tempting you in, but we carry on,
past the Spanish bar, laughter flowing
like the coffee poured expertly
by the artisan barista in the coffee shop
down the way. The aroma
of arabica beans blending into the cool air,
and the clientele sway in time with the traffic.
And florists showcase flowers galore
beside the jewellery and convenience stores.
Mock Tudor decorative gables overlook
bakers and butchers, cupcakes and cutlets.
Charity shops converse across the tarmac,
as the young trendy woman waves
at the man on bicycle riding slowly past.
Watching as he becomes a dot
in the distance, she sighs inward.
Wishing one day he'd stop.
Traffic waits as the young mother crosses.
Child excited by green man flashing.
Estate agents sit typing on computer terminals,
as the young couple have their future to plan.
The man sits, appreciating
the melody of flavours
singing on his taste buds,
the burger tastes so good.
Sauce drips down his chin,
but he doesn't notice a thing.
Wafts of conversation buzz excitedly
past, into Sainsbury's to grab some drinks
and start the party at last.
Under the trees a couple kisses
before she leaves on the 44,
seedlings of story
flowing on the breeze. Mosaic moments
creating a picture of community.
In the continental bar, a dog laps
at the bowl of water, before having a wander.
So many people to greet. And the poet sits,
pen in hand, inking an ode to the girl that
makes his smile grow.
Outside the bay windows
the sun sinks low, day drifts into night.
And through the clouds
the moonlight glows.
