Fire/Brimstone

What drives this world we live in?
the hellish nightmare; a fire and brimstone portend
where is it all heading, a dark sun setting
on a door marked exit, a sign reading dead end

How can we smile through the pain of a child sent to die; in a place of learning
in schools they are taught to fight, arm themselves with guns and knives
does fear fuel the studious mind, as the ashes surrounding are still burning
how can we just go about our daily lives?

How can we make amends for this sad decline?
how many tears will need to be shed, how many young lives shot dead
how many knife wounds will need to be seen, before we call it the end of the line?
how many obituaries will need to be read?

How can we go on, as if the world isn’t spinning out of control?
what is our role? consumers of a news footage overdose
we inject the fears into our hearts through our eyes into our very souls
as the flames of funeral pyres inch close

How can we keep our heads, knowing the way this ill wind is blowing?
how do we turn this around?
when the price of education is blood flowing
the genie is out of the bottle
some genius thought arming kids was a sound ideal
but with weapons at arms we always end in a battle waged at full throttle

For hearts, for minds, for you and me
them and us, all and everyone, humanity as one
this world needs to unite
untie the blindfolds from our eyes, tear off our gags
share our voices, a united cry
no more innocents need to die

Thanks For Reading.
Peace & Love.
Kyle.
