Black Widow

This web of lies and deceit

where I stumble and fall at your feet

tempting me to light my own funeral pyre

teasing with promise of hope and desire

you tug the threads

twisted words corrupting my head

some would say, irresistible

so, why do I feel so miserable

my blood running cold with dread

With looks that kill

icy stares that drill

down into the soul

this life seems so cold

hypnotically under your control

heart painted the colour of night

you are a sight for eyes that bleed under grey clouds

that plead in the moonlight

begging for a moment of respite

from these strands that are too tight

You sold your soul for a good time

a short dress and some fine wine

make-up and lies, deceptive eyes

to hide your devil-like nature behind

you draw us, deep into your nest

until we are invested

trapped in gossamer threads

where your dead skin is shed

baited, we are digested

to ensure your vanity is well fed

Those that are lured by your seductive pout

you chew them up and spit them out

like a production line of victims

all caught in your twisted system

a fly fighting to be free, snared

caught on webs in your rotting lair

mesmerised by your long flowing hair

Crawling footsteps chill the spine

blood flows like fine red wine

as you dance over gravestones

only remains, a bag of old wrecked bones

you are like a black widow spider

creeping around

venomous bite ready to devour

anyone whose heart dares to pound

Fatigue

I see no ray of light, no stunning insights

bringing me hope or delight

In this cold void of a night

I feel my desire to live get up and leave

my feet slipping, as I try to reach out

only grasping hold of doubt

I'm falling deep

I feel fatigue creep

over me

like fog over sea

I see no end in sight to this pain in my heart

to the noise that abounds through my head in the dark

I feel no smiling eyes or masks behind which I can hide

I'm just here standing naked and blind

bound gagged

with no words to be found

I ache from just being awake

my brain shakes from just thinking

I’m slipping, Sinking

whole world feels like its shrinking

I feel I'm drained

the strain of faking a smile

feels like a marathon

and I've sprinted every mile

I feel like I lifted my defences

then inside you placed a bomb

my safe house invaded

my panic room left wide open

like a nuclear fallout bunker

with sign attached reading out of order

I try to sleep

but the flooding thoughts seep

over me

I sink into a deep well of introspection

reflection

feel a sense of impending doom

like I've just entered a crowded room

and instead of smiles and glee

all eyes are staring, pointing daggers at me

I want to flee, close my eyes,

feel loving arms surrounding, like the roots of a tree

Sinking

Sinking

she thinks

'it's more like drifting

weightless into the dreamy ink'

Colours shifting

blues, purples, green

seen with a luminous sheen

through her eyes that dance

all new views to be seen

Her dress flows around

ripples in waters that whirl

swirling down

deeper she sinks

she thinks

'it's serene

a clean enticing dream

is this how it had always been?'

the tease of a smile touches her lips

just a breath of life in those dying sips

She thinks

'was it too late?

sinking

light

starting to fade'

tentacles stroke her legs

trying to pull deeper in

as the colours turn a darker shade

mythical beings swim

through her hazy vision

her smile

her smile

longs to be seen again

Sinking

no longer

now she's swimming

against the current

Trying to pull her under

like a mermaid rising

from the depths

the colours return

'brighter than before'

she thinks

blinking as she sees the sunrise reflect

this is worth living for
