Destination: End of the Road

 

We took it from 0 to 60 in the blink of an eye

no regards to whether we knew how to drive

thought ourselves invincible

we had no fear, could barely steer

but we had reached a pinnacle

the only way was down from here

Destination anywhere

 

Love would be our guide

us, just along for the ride

beauty had no roadmap

Our satnav didn’t have a destination mapped

we let the road open up

along country roads the wind whistling

tunes of love

the air whispering as we take off

We didn’t know how to slow down

or how to work the brakes

a big mistake

had our foot to the pedal

as the world flowed by

glistening metal shone under the sunset

our hearts leapt

Destination anywhere

 

We hit a curve, a sharp incline

then down we tore

fast as lightning

towards an oncoming wall

our destiny, our story

our downfall

Destination: end of the road

nowhere to go

no one to hear us call
