Food for thought

Would we be able to afford a new war?

Could we bankroll another bail out, if it was called for?

Those 'people' in power so willing to let children starve

will never know the cost of anything

they won’t ever feel the hurt of missing out

 

They won’t know the hunger that builds

when you skip a meal to feed a child

how it feels when your tears soak the pillow

because you can’t face another day

they will never know the pain that never goes away

The hunger to make the best of the hurt

of digging into pockets trying to find enough to cover costs

only coming out with fluff and dirt

they won’t ever understand the feeling of low worth

 

Food for thought

Would they let children starve?

If they were tory voters

If they were Eton scholars

I wonder, would they have the nerve

to lay blame at the feet of those

who are just trying to stay in the game?

would they lay the blame if the recipients were Lords or Dames?

 

They will never understand the cycle

always struggling to get ends to meet

just to have enough to eat

they won’t know the shame

waiting in a food bank line to fill out your name

they won’t ever feel the pain

Of not being able to give all that you have

they only ever think of gain
