Have you ever
dared to scream?
Let your lungs
pierce the air,
let your heart
burst at the seams.
Have you ever
let your dreams
slowly combust?
As you let fear erupt
from your pores
and hope turn to dust.
There is a freeing
from the chains
that life
has left you craving.
Stockholm syndrome
of this unfeeling lie,
that to be someone
you need to walk over
the bones of another.
You dare to believe
in a world where love
can smother hate,
where the unjust
get that which
waits for them
at the end of the day.
Sleepless nightmares
where they. Not you.
Are the ones who
feel the damage they do.
Have you ever dared to breathe?
Not in the life-giving way,
but to pull in all the hurt of a day
and expel a breath of pure hope.
Where those that wish to hurt
get clouded in a fog of their own making
A smokescreen with no way of escaping.
Stretched hands reaching in the shadows
as they whimper, asking to be saved.
And in the last lungful of breath
have you reached out your hand
and said this doesn’t have to be your fate?
If you let go of all the self-hate
and let self-love grow a better life awaits.
