Long red summer

Long red summer, a ripped rag
love long gone, bullet strewn flag
ripped and torn, dragged in mud
a tear for the lost and young, gone for good

Bombs carve scars in the heart of the lands
blooded head in hands, bloodshed for whose plans?
missiles fall like rain, a growing thunderstorm
blinding and rumbling, downpour red and warm

War ended too soon for some
the boy lay in a ditch, a grave
a waste of a life, his place in history
his story never to be told, no one knows his name

A change of pace, the bullets race
whistling, glistening shots ring across the face
any one could have their name etched
shouts scream out, medic now, arms outstretched
get down, they dive amidst the mud and blood
a wave of writhing men and women flood
Smoke fills the air, the hell and despair
the last thing they hear, missiles blare
say a silent prayer and shed a tear not blood there

Thanks for reading.
Peace & Love.
Kyle.
