I sit here again
watching the summer rain
splashing from cars
as they continue their day.
The puddles that remain
are stained dirty and grey,
like my heart left
reeling in pain
drowning
under the onslaught
of the heavy summer rain.
I sit here,
as I so often do,
phone in hand
awaiting a call that
never comes through,
wondering what would happen
if I were to call you,
would there be a click
as the lines connect
would there be
a connection of love?
Would you send
a message or two?
Just a heart sent to say
you know I love you.
I gulp down poetry
like the tears I let fall.
I devour lines of beauty
just sitting awaiting a call.
I listen to the drumming of the rain
As my fingers drum in time
upon my worn-out notepad.
I sit with phone in hand
I wish upon the stars
for just one blown kiss to land.
I sit here
watching.
Just breathing in
the atmosphere.
If I can hold it all inside
then maybe I won’t feel
so dead within
when I’m alone again
with just the sound
of the heavy summer rain
pounding on the ground,
your name
echoing through my head.
