A chance collision of hearts

The night hums

with anticipation.

The moon glints

in the heavens.

The stars dance

in nervous apprehension.

For the spell has been cast.

The hook is set and now it is time

to catch some feelings.

Billy sits unaware

of the conspiring universe.

He sits unwaveringly staring

at the ground.

Too many faces around tonight.

Too many eyes that could leer at him.

Too much fear within him.

He can feel it itching,

just below the skin.

Melody walks in,

head in the clouds,

just searching

for a spark to restart

the fire within.

A burst of light

to break through the darkness

that has been creeping in.

Billy frets, he swerves and sweats,

fingers drumming on his notepad,

like the beat of some ancient

rhythm in his head,

but his eyes are only

attuned to the ground,

his mind is away trying

to catch a hold of a line,

one that will fit the jigsaw

words he has scattering the page.

Eyes down, Billy turns left.

Mind star bound, Melody turns right,

sees the moon in the sky,

dazzling silver light,

dazed as if in flight.

They collide

in a crash of paper and hearts.

He stammers an apology,

she blurts out, 'Honestly, it was me'

Then she bends

to pick up the open notepad.

Billy sees Melody

in the gleaming moonlight.

Instantaneous chemistry.

Electricity sparkles like

glitter sprayed into the light,

nut she holds tightly to his page

and fear starts to creep in to his gaze.

He takes the paper says sorry and thank you.

Then disappears into the darkness like vapour,

for he can’t let anyone see his thoughts,

not even her.

Especially not her.

Melody with a twinkle

in her eye starts to hum.

A line she read from his book

stirred within her,

and outside the moon

winked at the stars and they

gazed over at some other lost hearts,

knowing that for now

they had played their parts.

To Be Contined
