Did you see the gravestone
emotion left in the air
where I left my heart beating
its last sound. A lingering wish,
sat in the longing of a kiss
held in sunblossom song.
I am speechless
at the way butterfly words
float between flowerpetal lips.
My heart lurches into my throat
at the way they serenade this
sentimental soul, choking
on razor-sharp words I can't say
like I love you,
you mean the world to me.
My voice is an empty hearse
and my heart the dirt piling up
on a mound of earth. And if you blinked
you would miss the way I whisper
a silent prayer to a god I don't believe exists.
All the thoughts I let drift from ear to ear.
All those words you never hear
for they stay stuck tightly in here.
Come a little bit closer
I want to hold you near,
show you the universe,
and I'll place a shell upon your ears
so you can hear its song
as the stars settle around
our feet, like snowdrops
upon a meadow, where my love
is galaxies deep.
And if I opened my palms
I'd release a million butterflies.
Every colour under the sun.
For I want you to see the beauty I see
when I look on those flowerpetal lips
and the soul they sit upon.
And the moon will whisper
my untold secrets to the sky.
You can see them, hold them up
to the starlight, but the words
are only heard if you hold love inside.
