Play

Play.

A word we look down on,

it’s just childish they say,

grow up, life is tough,

you need to get real

ignore all that stuff.

Magic doesn't exist they scream,

but I know

I’ve walked in dreams

when I’ve been wide awake

with my eyes open wide.

Imagination.

Just a figment of a childish way

or is it tapping into the very atoms

that we betray?

Is it wrong to feel the spray

of an ocean wave

and crave

the love it gives every day?

Is it wrong to hear

the song that is sung

when morning comes,

the song the universe

sings to some.

I know I’ve felt those chords

striking within me,

I’ve felt those notes

reverberate through my bones.

I’ve heard it sung from

the trees and the stones.

Grow up, get in line.

Follow blindly

as we give away

all of our time.

Take only the pathways prescribed,

don't explore those

corners of your mind,

a wasteland is all you will find.

Don't let your thoughts fly,

soaring clouds of hope sent to inspire

can only lead to a world surrounded by fire.

Well, I say,

I walk through

the tangled brambles,

I’ve danced with butterfly souls.

I explore to find

the heart that soars,

the heart that is whole.

I love

Instead of always

wanting more, more, more.

I let my mind share with me

its magic, I dream and I see things

that can only ever exist

if the universe is singing in tune.

So, I will play,

I will let my imagination

take me away, I'll stay in the dreams I have

whilst I’m wide awake,

and I'll live a life full of hope

because anything else feels like a lie.

Moonlight musings

I lay in the moonlight

and think of you.

Quarter past midnight,

could be half past forever,

time has no meaning

when I’m drifting in the aether

and all I can do is

play stories in my head

like a DVD playback

of a picture book daydream.

I can see you on my screen,

the one that sits behind my eyes,

I see you there whenever

I block out the light.

I wish I knew what words to use.

I wish I could devour a dictionary,

to find the exact set of words

that would form a golden shiny key

to open the doorway

to your heart of pure infinity.

A magic spell

that opens the windows to your soul.

I wish I could say the words

that tear me apart, but I need to be whole.

I know rejection

and I've felt the hurt. I’ve been torn in half

more times than I care to express

I've been left

with a heart broken into pieces.

Maybe I'm just careless,

I should keep it safely inside of me.

But what use is my heart

if it isn't beating for true loves beauty.

I wish I could shatter the shell,

break the evil spell,

dispelling the gremlins

that make my life hell.

I would then open myself to you

like a book that you can pour through.

I’d say how much I adore you.

More than that.

I'm sure that my dreams revolve

around everything you do,

like I'm a space rock

circling your sun,

because your light

is the only warmth

in this cosmos

I can really call home.

Polaroid memories

I wade through a swell of

Polaroid memories,

the moments trying to pull me in,

to take me back to a day lost in

the fading pages of history.

I glance around, a sea of places,

Faces; some I remember ,

others that time has seemingly erased.

I feel the urge to let them drift me away

to some long-forgotten summer day.

In the swirl of memories,

those Polaroid snapshots of past days

I see a lost boy, wandering lonely

but in his eyes a glint of light.

If only he knew,

the journey would be hard

but the destination would have a beautiful view.

I see the beginning of a fight

that will last him a lifetime,

but one that is right,

a feeling inside

that can never be outshined.

I glance around at times

more innocent than now,

when all we wanted

was to laugh at sun rise

and watch as the burning skies

brightened those days,

excited for what the hours would bring.

Now burning skies only bring tears,

power hungry beings towering over the

the lives of the lost and suffering.

I wonder what our Polaroid memories

will show in the years to come?

Will it be the shame of everyone

for standing by whilst hope was

being held hostage

at the smoking end of a gun.
