Welcome to the fun house,
where sense becomes dust
in a forgotten instance,
like incense drifting through
the stale air.
The demons lair,
where hope soon shifts
gears into painful despair.
Sharing your heart,
a practice long ago departed,
now any love is led
down the twisting corridors.
Greeted by a devilish laugh
and a cutting thud.
Twisting rooms
swirl in and out of view.
Emotions left askew.
The wavelike motion
of the wobbling alleyways,
leaves your mind
planted firmly on the ground
but your thoughts floating in pain.
The hours are stop, start.
Fast, slow, open, closed, on, off,
whether I'm coming or going
I don't know,
but they are so very different
from the way things ought to be,
instead, we are treated
to distant haunting tunes hourly.
Confounding your sanity.
In this fun house the mirrors distort,
leaving you with only
self-loathing to report.
My body doesn't look like that,
where did I gain that fat?
And why has my smile
fell flat on the floor,
scurrying away like a rat?
In the ball pit
you realise that these are not balls,
but giant woodlice
wanting to feast on us all.
Dog sized insects try to climb the walls,
but gravity has different ideas
and at your four feet they fall.
Fairground cacophony,
played through the speakers,
by hells own demonic symphony,
It's really affecting me,
making my feet feel weird.
My heartbeat seems rapid,
or has it stopped still, no normality.
Up is down, left is right
and your whole world
feels flipped upside down.
Thinking on your feet,
you try to find escape
but those nagging melodies scrape away
the movement centre of your brain,
playing around with your sanity.
Clustering all around me.
Notes that shouldn't be heard,
turned up loud. Grinding
any sense you had
into fine dust, then blowing it away.
In this fun house
where we while away our dwindling days,
in hope of some fairytale story
to bring escape to the page.
