Have you ever dreamt
of answering a ringing phone,
awakening in a deep silence,
Only to have the phone
suddenly start calling.
Or had that feeling,
when fast asleep
and you get jolted awake
by your alarm singing,
only for the alarm to start shouting
the moment you open your eyes.
How do we know these things.
before they happen?
Is it precognition
or other worlds
spilling into ours?
When you see
a face, a burst of light
as your brain shakes,
you know you have met before,
but can't picture the location or date.
Is it just a happy accident?
Or is something happening
in the world of dreams?
You see
the world of dreams
is not as it may seem.
A dream
isn't what we picture,
It isn't a tv screen
showing us a
pre-filmed feature.
A dream is the fittings and fixtures,
a mixture of feelings and emotions,
blended into a sleep potion.
They are more like the space
that separates universes.
The places where veils
are loosely stitched,
so the essence can spill in between,
like the sublime moment between ticks
on a clock, the awaited tock, sticks
as if the sensations are breaking out
of a box.
In dreams
different galaxies project
their hopes, ambitions, loves, regrets,
mix in with our own.
In our murky brain depths,
thoughts intersect
with thoughts we haven't yet grown,
like the middle of a spiders web,
all the threads start to connect,
the strands getting thinner
the deeper in you get.
And I know
I saw you before.
You spoke to me
of this I'm completely sure.
I'd never met you,
nor seen your face,
until this dream,
now it's forever
etched into my memory.
