Small Victories

Left grieving, heart barely beating
you like to tell me how I should be dealing
but you cant read my mind, all the thoughts bleeding
an insight into my murdered feelings
the loss, like memories that fade to mist
a whispered word from a distant world where I can't exist

Stolen whole, left a heart shaped hole for all to see
judge me, pick apart the seams, pull at the threads til I'm untangled and free
that's what you think I need, to be fixed and released
but you cant put back these pieces, misshapen by the pain unleashed

Medicated, not out for the count, I'm down but ready for another round
creating my own world, a whole new sound
you try to mend my broken skin, but those scars show from where I came
they give me a reason to grow, a meaning, to never feel that low again
I wont concede defeat, or fall on my sword and land at your feet
instead I will keep taking steps, small victories I will complete

Mascara tears

What's the reason for this, she sighs
Another wasted night, left to fight or flight
just one quick fumble, didn't even get a number
as he walks through the door, she cries under her covers

Where is the one she craves
the life on the waves
who will take the story and write a new chapter
who will leave her in rapture
just a small glance at life
who will dance, call her a wife

Why does it always end like this, smeared lipstick kisses
beer drenched sweaty mistakes, ripped dresses, too many near misses
just a fumble, a bit of rough
who just wants to tumble, in a night of fake love
Self harm doesn't come with a sign above

Broken hearted, streamed mascara tears
lost, a ship floating in a sea of fears
who will take a chance when she wont give herself a second glance
who will accept a dance, when the hate is within
arrows pointing out her flaws, self harm isn't just a cut to the skin

Drinks the bar dry, she never has to buy
just to fall into the arms of some guy
keeps her bed warm, so she doesn't feel alone
she sometimes wishes she had never been born
self harm doesn't always leave a scar to be worn

Her perfume lingers, a scent to entice
when she just wants to be treated nice
yet the guys never notice the tears she cries
they just make their advances, living a borrowed life
self harm isn't always the edge of a knife

Rainbow maker

Fill the space, colour the void
paint the page, dye this grey heart, unemployed
you are the brush, you touch the paper
add joy and warmth, you are the rainbow maker

Decorate this monochrome world with a spectrum of love
replace the greys, let the reds through, blue sky above
purple fountains, shine bright in the yellow light
green grows to replace the concrete so dull a sight

Be the depth and tone, fill the spaces between
paint by numbers, two of us, one true story to be seen
help to add the complexity to this black and white outline
with your touch, you tint the canvas with colours so fine

Add your colour wash, brighten these greyscale days
and add love to the sepia tinged sky on dark nights away
let the colours mix and mingle, like lovers embrace
see new tones sweeping through the bland, blank spaces

No more

Threw my demons down, after one too many fights
kicked them through the door
scaly, red skin glistening under beaming streetlights
with forked tongues, I listen to them no more

Their evil lies within, their piercing bloodshot eyes
like mine before I cast them out, pushed them to the floor
the sulphur smell lingers, when stress starts to paralyse
gone but never forgotten, though I miss them no more

The hiss as they speak, follows you into sleep
the noises, shrill voices, the devious games, they bore
corrupting dreams, only ever trick, they never treat
now banished to their pits, I hear what they say no more

Stormy seas

Kept afloat, on life support
body failing, brain goes sailing
this journey doesn't need a passport
in the distance all I hear is wailing

On these turbulent waves, just a flicker of life
on the dark stormy seas, just a flicker of light
in the distance all I hear is the surgeons knife
cutting through the darkness of that night

Across the vast ocean, I'm flying above
I see land, a place of hope, just beyond the waves
in between stormy waters of hate and the lands filled with love
in the distance I hear the cries to save

On the beach, sand beneath, wet, cool between my feet
still the waters batter against my fragile body
now they just soothe, no longer a threat now a treat
and next to me I hear my family, friends, everybody

Fall of the night watchman

Enemies lurk at each turn, every corner
down grim alleyways, creeping through shadows
skulking in the haze, they are without border
lurking in the darkness, striking a menacing pose

From dream thieves to sleep demons
street beasts to monsters of the deep
beings that create nightmares when dreaming
they make fear their home, stifle your sleep

The watchman tries with all his might
to contain them, to save the night
always there to put up a fight
but tonight the world is in for such a fright

The demons and the beasts, too many even for him
this battle like a mountain that he cant surmount
the darkest hour is here, the witching hour is grim
the night watchman is down, out for the count

Body broken, will to fight ran away into the night
surrounded, beaten, thrown deep into earth, a place without light
beetles and bugs make a meal of his skin, barely a flicker of life
the city above grows darker still, the watchman, fallen, bad dreams run rife

Disenchanted youth

Disenchanted, stories of stolen youth
blinded, blindsided, broken by the world so uncouth
the hopes once held high, now just burnt down
amongst the wreckage strewn around

Disillusioned, delusional product of false memory
where the fun never ended, the songs had energy
the party lasted all night
forever and always, you told that lie

Disconnected, lost our place, lost the way
no map could guide, no book had the right words to say
just a generation of chances never taken
led by the hand into damnation

Disenfranchised, mouths sewn shut, generation of brain death
words never uttered, nor muttered under shallow breath
just followed the herd, follow the money, forget when the sun used to beam
forget the simplest of things, just a doped up crowd of lost dreams

Burnt in rage, blank stares behind dead eyes
injected hate into the veins, an aftermath of ingested lies
drank the poison offered, fuelled a nations decline
we all forgot the lines, we lost our chance to shine
