Ghosted

Ghosted.

Messages don't go through

to the lands ahead.

Left unread.

Disconnected phone lines

never get answered.

Calls unconnected,

words unsaid.

Clinging on to hope,

gripping

my phone so tight,

knuckles blare white.

Do I have to face this night?

Questions.

Too many

but the phone never clicks

No-one

answers.

I feel sick.

Cancelled plans,

A statue of cold grey slate.

stood up, stand tall.

Can I do this alone?

Too late. Don't fall.

Ghosted

by fate.

I sit and wait.

Empty bars,

no signal.

Nursing a pint,

no calls.

Empty cars

shuffle me home.

Into bed I sprawl,

into sleep I crawl.

Those empty stars

no longer glow,

messages never ping,

phone doesn't ring.

Alone in this far away galaxy

Text lines, signed with an x.

Underlined in red, I barely exist.

I sent flowers and hearts.

The circle remained unticked.

Fate had fled,

flags raised in my head.

Too late, I thought,

the words unsaid.

Into the night

In that stark, bare room,

I sat as the dark was consumed

by the glare of the saddened moon.

In the shimmering light

I fought back fear,

fight or flight,

I wanted to run,

but I was staying the night.

Could I still slay the demons

if they were just out of sight?

In this city, where dreams

could come true,

I realised that, so too

could nightmares,

as I slipped into dreams,

visions of piercing blue eyes.

In that empty pit,

regency architecturt,

now crumbling flaky bits,

worn rooms too small to sit,

I felt a pang of regret.

Far from home,

I thought if I fled,

I'd leave fears at home,

all comfortably tucked up in bed,

but they came along for the journey,

meeting some friends along the way.

So, here I was so far away,

with only my monsters

to keep me company.

In that decrepit dive

I set out into the rain,

I set foot on the cobbled streets,

aching limbs burning heat,

the strain tearing muscles

twisting and pulling,

whilst the echoing voices

fill up my brain

but I persevere,

letting the streets share with me

the wonders, their secrets,

letting the city breathe new life,

and the moon above

giving me comfort.

I strode alone, into the night.

Smiling moon

Fade through

these evening streets.

Clock face blazes bright

against the darkening sky.

Pace into the wind

to feel the chill, the rain

to feel the cool tears

washing my grimy face.

I taste memories.

Embraces from another day,

one lost so many years away.

I chase sirens,

in these serpentine lanes,

I walk in line, to face the pain,

to taste the rain,

embrace the memories that stain.

I waste away, every step I take,

slowly fading into yesterday.

I let times waves wash over me,

water to revive old recollection.

I see reflections of the sky

in the puddles around me.

The moon smiles down I see.

I stride, searching high and low,

for the feint echo of your heartbeat.

I want the glow

of our smiles when we meet

but these old feet are aching,

striving to sleep. I wish you here

but it was all so far away

along a different time flow,

under a different streetlight

years ago,

and I'm fading into the night

with every step I take.
