Sail me away

Sail me away

I'll steer us from those

dark clouds amassing

over the horizon.

I’ll sidestep the lightning,

for our hearts

hold much more

heat and passion within.

I'll take you wherever

your wishes lead.

We’ll float where fishes feed

So that you can witness the view,

a swarming underwater flowerbed

of so many magnificent colours

all swimming around

mesmerised by you.

Don't worry about

the strong undercurrents,

they won’t drag us off course.

We won’t get lost.

I’ll keep things steady

when those still waters

get choppy,

or when the air becomes foggy.

I'll always be ready

when storms are brewing,

I'll provide safety whenever

danger is looming

and it threatens

to drown our wills

in the sound of the heavens booming.

When my sails are struggling

in the fiercest winds

I’ll reel them in,

so we can just float,

coast to coast.

We can explore

these seven seas.

You be the captain,

I'll be the boat.

Sail me

wherever you want to be,

I'll change course

whenever you feel.

Sail me to the place you belong.

Sail me home,

wherever that may prove to be.

We can glide effortlessly

across the astral seas,

we can fly

beside the moon we see

and find our own

little slice of reality.

Patchwork

I've burnt so many bridges

just to drift upon the water

that flows beneath.

I replay old memories

to see if they still resemble me.

I reassemble shards of my story

to build a new ornamental piece

based on the man I used to be.

Then I try to improve

the image that I see.

I take the fabric of my existence,

all scraps and torn edges,

faded in pieces, vivid colour in others.

I lay them out with a ball of twine

and I sew them together until they form

this new blanket of mine.

I don’t worry about the lines,

the random edges suit me just fine.

I take words I once said,

or stories I have lived,

I roll them around my mouth

and pluck the pieces from my lips.

Then I let them sit, snippets of me,

brief glimpses into who I am

and who I used to be.

I rearrange them word by word,

creating a new world,

one that is so much better than before.

A world I can finally look upon in awe.

I've rebuilt this shell so many times,

I've learnt to look deep inside

to find the bits I do not like

and discard them into the frozen night.

I keep jagged edged pieces,

worn old memories,

and I fit them together

until the image is clearer.

The scraps,

I feed to the moon,

I let them drift on the air,

for I don’t need them within me

when I have a heart sat there.

The relentless march of time

I've reached that point in life

where the hours no longer creep,

they race up to you

and shout boo,

whilst slapping you

sharply across the face

jolting you awake from a dream

that you wish would manifest,

but instead, you open your eyes

upon a towering mess,

clutter as far as the eye can see.

The clock always seems

turned to double speed.

The ticks and tocks just bleed into one.

The hands a blur,

screaming across the face,

in an ever-increasing pace, a race

to see which one breaks first.

Time it seems has turned on me,

it has me in its beady eyes,

I sigh, at each hour passing by,

before I realise, that the sun

is no longer in the sky

and the day has ended.

Left without saying goodbye.

Time I wish I was spending with you,

is spent instead

just trying to get my feet to move,

trying to get my mind in gear,

when before that would happen

in the blink of an eye,

now a blink could be

a chunk of life lost, faded,

a whisper in a breeze,

a murmur in the trees.

I am still trying to move.

Stuck tightly on aching knees.

I just wish to bask in beauty

without the clock spinning so fast.

Is that really too much to ask?
