Menacing clouds

Menacing clouds

open scars

in the grey swirling skies.

Surveying the ground,

through rage-tinged

eyes of the storm.

With vicious

silver-lined smiles,

they expel

a low rumbling growl.

Slow like a bass line,

deep and loud.

An animal prowling

the deserted sky.

Ready to strike

with fury.

Vengeful.

Angry.

Judge, jury,

executioner.

A Flash. Blinding.

Loud crashes,

smashing my mind

against walls of sound.

Strobe lightning

strikes down.

Blankets the sky in white.

Night turned to day

in the blink of an eye.

Deluge downpour,

cascades

of rain falls

for what feels like forever.

An eternity

of soaked earth.

Saturated, waterlogged

clods of dirt.

Then the wind blows,

cloud herds migrate

across the sky-shaped landscape.

The sun finally escapes

from her grey prison cell

drying us off, warming our hearts,

making us feel well.

I long for the view.

As I drift past

steel monolith metaphors,

carried along the

errant currents

of the liquid night.

I venture towards

a streetlight,

flickering memory light.

A memory of a kiss,

lost in bliss

under fluffy similes.

The mysterious moon

manipulates the view,

making me feel more

at ease.

Words rush past me,

one stops

and tries to grab

my floating attention.

Asking if I have any change,

I think,

"I've changed so much"

but my words rearrange.

"So much I could change."

I feel a crush in my chest,

my heart breaking its cage.

Remembering a fleeting distant hug

where we felt, we couldn't ever let go.

Past some old tired cliches,

some baggy hooded analogies.

Along oxymoron streets

with no beginning or end.

I traipse along these moonlit tropes,

feeling the weight

of great expectations.

I remember

the smell of flowers.

The perfume that hugged your skin,

the song we'd sing

in the pouring rain, feeling no pain,

just the sense of finally belonging.

Now I long for those hazy hills,

the lazy morning walks

to nowheres shores.

the long nighttime talks,

never a chore.

I felt myself blend

into the still scenery

becoming just another word

in someone else's story.

A memory. A ghost. A verse.

Just a part

of the grand universe.

Without a clue,

nor destination.

Just along for the view.

Take the mic

It feels like

the whole

room can feel

the rush of tears

flowing towards

the corners

of my eyes.

The whole room

can hear

the pain cutting away

my choked smile,

before I've even

croaked a line.

They already know

what I'm about to say.

And all eyes are on me,

watching as I cast nets

of old heartaches,

dredging these storied seas.

I dig up bones

of love that faded into memory.

I climb through mirrors

into lands of fantasy,

where the truth is hidden,

in shadowy shimmers

behind the lurking trees.

The whole room knows

the dull rain within,

the naked words

that try to help the pain swim

through the thick electric air.

Fluorescent lights glare,

showing every crack,

in black silhouette.

amplified voice echoes back,

You can hear

every vocal tear, every gasp for air.

Then the lights fade,

applause hits the stage,

a wall of noise,

a shock wave blast

of claps and gasps,

smiles and cheers,

knocking you off your feet,

dispelling your fears.

Stumbling every step

back to your seat.
