It feels like
the whole
room can feel
the rush of tears
flowing towards
the corners
of my eyes.
The whole room
can hear
the pain cutting away
my choked smile,
before I've even
croaked a line.
They already know
what I'm about to say.
And all eyes are on me,
watching as I cast nets
of old heartaches,
dredging these storied seas.
I dig up bones
of love that faded into memory.
I climb through mirrors
into lands of fantasy,
where the truth is hidden,
in shadowy shimmers
behind the lurking trees.
The whole room knows
the dull rain within,
the naked words
that try to help the pain swim
through the thick electric air.
Fluorescent lights glare,
showing every crack,
in black silhouette.
amplified voice echoes back,
You can hear
every vocal tear, every gasp for air.
Then the lights fade,
applause hits the stage,
a wall of noise,
a shock wave blast
of claps and gasps,
smiles and cheers,
knocking you off your feet,
dispelling your fears.
Stumbling every step
back to your seat.
