Paper brick

My latest collection "Paper Brick" is now in the wild.

This collection is my largest to date at 400 pages.

Filled to the brim with storytelling poetry,

a dash of love, a heavy dollop of horror,

a smidgen of sci-fi, some politics, and lots more.

If you enjoy any of my work

this book will have something for you.

There are some returning characters,

some new faces,

whole new worlds.

The hum, always the hum.

It never leaves you alone,

the dreaded tone

that creeps into your bones,

then starts to grind them

from the inside.

The wolf once again rides,

the watchman lays in wait.

And the woman of dreams

walks the tides,

always at your side

under the moon's glorious light.

If you are new to my work

you can jump straight in.

This is a self-contained collection,

you don't need to have prior knowledge.

But if you want to know more

about these characters and stories

then you can always dive back

through my collections

and piece together the bigger storylines.

Wings

In my mirror imagination

I’m blinded by the

light of a myriad suns,

all shining an inaudible song.

The words, felt deep within,

keep me warm.

The swirl of the air drifts me along.

I’m lifted through clouds,

across fields that, when young,

I would have run.

In the scattershot memories

that circle me here

like birds of prey ready to dine,

I see so many unfulfilled yesterdays.

But today I know I'm able to soar above

those dislodged souvenirs,

the reminders

of all the places I've been,

of all those days

I'd spend wishing would leave.

The memories I wish would let me be.

Now I see them starting to fall

as my wings

have finally started growing

and I can fly above it all.

Finally I can breathe.

I see the pain.

A sea with tidal waves

surging towards

the sandcastle lands.

I want to turn away,

but the view has me

transfixed

somewhere betwixt

a dream and reality

where I'm no longer sure

that the me I see in memory

still exists.

 I swoop towards the floor,

then soar higher than before.

The sea touches the shore,

and I'm sure I see yesterday

fade into nevermore.

The me that once

walked those sands,

a lost boy, with hurt pouring

like water through his hands,

can now fly

as he has found

his peace with life.

Monster

The monster sleeps,

the sleep of the restless.

In dreams he turns fitfully,

awaiting a mittful

of people on whose

stressed emotions he can feed.

Throughout the night

the monster breathes in deep lungfuls,

Snoring out hate in snorted growls.

Scaring away the light,

making the moon hide her eyes.

The beast wakes,

takes the day

and starts to unravel it

piece by piece,

making people feel like shit.

Disturbing the peace

gives him his high.

He doesn't shy away,

nor stay in the shadows

during the light of day,

he goes his own way,

causing mischief and hate.

He feeds you with self-distain,

making you feel less than one.

He makes you feel insane.

Straining your hope

until you have watched your life

flow down the drain. Gone.

He tells you lies

until you believe them as true.

He makes you feel like everything

is all because of you,

everything you ever do,

it is you at fault.

He controls what you do,

who you see,

what you think

and ultimately, who you'll be.

The monster or beast,

a deceiver. A thief

stealing away every part of you

and making it his own.

You are not allowed to own,

everything you have is on loan,

rented from the shady creature

that stalks your home.

Don't you see

there is no paranormal mystery.

No supernatural entity.

The monster that stands

before you and me is just a bully,

built from skin and bone.

He fears what he doesn't know.

He fears being left alone,

so he leers at you when you arrive home.

He sneers when you find the drive

to be a better person of your own.

He lies that you are worthless

because he despises

being left behind when you see through

his snide remarks.

He wants things his way,

no other way will do

and don’t dare be good

at what you do, he will ridicule,

making you feel like you don’t deserve praise,

when in truth your story is so much better

once you stop being his slave.
