Monsters of the mind,
not always the same monsters
that we find in life.
Not the creeping lurking kind,
nor the blood sucking ones you find
rife In horror movies.
The true terrors are in the warped hearts of mankind.
The suit that tries to suck you dry,
it's not your blood they need to thrive,
your wallet they desire. The contents more precisely.
They want you to be begging,
they want you at their door
like an addict needing to score.
They will give you a fix
but supply it with some harsh kicks
and then they will leave you always wanting more.
Vampires, have nothing on these bloodsucking beasts.
The temptress that tries to lure you in
with promise of hope and love.
When they just want to tear at your skin
with fingernail talons ripping and piercing.
They twist your thoughts until all you hear
is your own strained screaming
echoing through the deadened space between the ears.
They offer much but deal in sin.
Once they get their claws in deep.
They win.
The thugs, who get by
on brawn alone.
Using their brain seems a waste,
when you can just break a bone.
Or two. A kneecap will do.
They will always claim
to be unable to control the way
their fists swing in rage, like a gorilla in a cage.
They punch first ask questions never
They just do whatever.
Then reply with a swift black eye,
if you so much as question
their reasons why.
Those in power, politicians, despots,
corrupt cops, celebrity mouthpiece
spouting hate and causing grief.
Divide the lands, that their ideal.
It's easier to rule over divided people.
Create fear, inspire hatred
in those that don't adhere.
Make protest illegal.
I fear who will be left,
when they come to take our notepads away,
When they sew our mouths shut.
Us and them, friend and enemy,
haves and have nots,
vs those that sit at the top and have lots.
But who will stand up?
Monsters of the page, monsters on a screen,
monsters of the mind, nothing like as vicious
as the venomous monsters of mankind.
