Traffic

I awakened with a jump

but I wasn't asleep,

not in some peaceful dream.

I hear feint echoes of a scream..

Head fuzzy, feel disembodied,

discombobulated,

eyes slowly becoming less foggy.

Was I daydreaming?

Nothing feels right

like I was out

on the tiles last night

and I'm feeling groggy.

I hear the traffic beeping loud.

At this time of night, I think.

Blue and red flash

through my head.

How did I end up here?

I must have been

walking on a cloud

in a long-forgotten dream,

I hear crowds.

I hear faded memories of a scream.

I was walking

I remember.

Walking here only feet away.

Feels like a different day.

Red and blue lights

I was flying.

Flying.

Then nothing.

Ice on my shoulder,

cold frigid fingers.

My blood flowing colder,

icicles causing friction

within my whole body.

I turn, and see the hands

of a man

I've only heard about in fiction.

A skeletal being.

From distant fabled lands.

The sirens deafening.

He says remember,

flicking the hourglass

to dislodge the final sands.

Red and blue lights

filled the inky black of the night.

Fill the void of my mind.

Then it all crashes like a mirror smashing.

Flashes. fragments of the life I had amassed.

Sirens zooming past.

I saw the gap in the traffic

and I started to cross.

The screech of tires.

The scream.

My scream.

it echoes around like a bad dream

and I flew.

I hear murmuring crowds.

Sirens blaring out.

Red and blue lights flashing

and then darkness

is all that I knew.
