Bag of bones

There was a time, somewhere back

when distant shadows were cast.

I was stood, stooped on the brink,

staring into the vast precipice of life.

I saw every moment flash past.

Memories, Stories.

Like photographs being thrown

into the deep dark abyss.

Before my eyes I saw wrath.

That demon drink and its aftermath.

I played a game with death,

a good old-fashioned game of chance.

His bony grin took my breath.

but through luck I got another dance.

I had won. Advanced past go,

collected 200 and was now

on a new road.

"Errmmm hang on there a second...

You didn't actually win!

It was best of 3 and I was

called away in an emergency.

Deaths work is never done you know.

It's a slog, I'd give you a blow by blow

but you only have so many goes

around the sun.

So, I'm afraid there just isn't the time.

Anyway, you said

you would put me in your books!

I'm still waiting for that Apocalyptica one"

There was a time...

Long in the past, where the darkened

shadows cast,

where I saw forever. Lonely and vast,

and I saw myself;

wretched feet, walking into it.

"Who are you talking to?

You do realise no one

reads this stuff?

It's poetry. or so you say!

Well, I hate to break it to you,

but that was boring

even back in Shakespeare’s day"

There was a time...

When I let my words walk free,

they promised to protect me,

keep me company when lonely.

They faced the darkness.

The storm, the shadows, the screams,

but they also witnessed my happiest dreams.

and they will always keep on guiding me.

Because my words are true.

I write them for me, I write them for you,

and I even write them

for you, my bony friend.
