On that night in the blood moon
crimson light of a broken heart
I saw the devil standing,
his back to me,
facing a world in flames
deep in a fire fight
of endless emotional wargames.
He laughed as I lay collapsed,
crying to the light
I held deep in my chest
watching the darkness
becoming my nest.
I watched as a lightning strike
of rage cut through the dark of night,
tore apart my page.
The devil ripped my weary heart
clean out of me and stuffed it in a cage.
My art wept. It slept in a state of neglect,
as the darker days crept and smothered me
in a blanket of loneliness.
I cried rivers of blood red waves
at the way the world
had become enslaved.
I watched the very
beginning of the end days
crawling out of the dirty ground.
Ashamed at how far
we had fallen down.
I frowned at the hurt,
I snarled at the pain
I shrieked at the way
the world seemed upside down,
I growled. A wolf with no bite
lost in a long-forgotten fight.
I watched, unable to move.
Chained in place by the creature
with fiery hooves.
I watched through tear blurred eyes
weak outlines of a world divided
and its people maligned.
I watched,
the images burned
to the surface of my eyes.
I watched my broken heart
take to the sky.
I swear for a second the devil smiled
knowing I'd lost all hope.
Thinking I was at the end of my rope.
But my heart soared higher,
lighter than bubbles blown in the still air.
It beamed brighter than the sun
and it stayed there lightening the day,
The darkness receding,
becoming a thin blemish
on the sky's skin
that would soon silently slink away.
All the devil could do was run.
for love defeats evil
and my heart is full to the brim.
