'Alas' said the moon shining down,
'I watched as a sea of men walked proud,
outfits loud, weapons held high,
to a battlefield somewhere in a distant sky.'
‘I watched’ she said,
‘I watched
as the day tore the sun
from their hearts
and the good from their smiles,
my eyes glistened
in the low light of the everlasting night
like the stars twinkling by my side
and I listened to their ferocious
chants calling out for blood.’
‘And I watched, it’s all I could do.
As their hatred grew,
I saw the way they walked,
purposeful strides into death’
I wondered aloud ‘why?’
‘What has man done to man
to make this the reply?’
And I hid my eyes
as the missiles blistered my sky.
Night blinked into day,
the man-made fire set the air ablaze
hiding the screams
as the darkness fell silently
back into place.
Grinding my astral teeth,
I watched,
there was nothing more I could do.
In truth I wanted to move,
to be anywhere but here.
The scent of death filled the air.
If I could just ascend away
I would.
These eyes
have seen too much pain,
too much blood.
But I sat and watched,
what more could I do?
I am but a planetary object
after all. So, I sat and watched
as humanity met its downfall
and the tears glistening in my eyes,
like the twinkling stars by my side,
all started to fall.
