Only murders in the pumpkin patch

There I was…

Just another pumpkin

in a field of plenty.

Minding my own business,

going my own way,

just watching

the golden sunshine

emptying its heart out

Over our little stretch of countryside.

Its rays slaying through the clouds,

mingling with the burnt ochre leaves

scattered all over the ground.

I was happy. Contented.

I had my friends.

I had everything

a pumpkin could dream.

But during the days

I started to hear screams.

The most terrifying screams.

At first just a screeching

in the distance,

but after a week of moons weeping,

the sound became deafening. Maddening.

Soon there were murmurs.

Talk of murders

whispered through

our little patch.

Eerie echoes filled

the newly renamed

killing fields,

The sullen autumn sting,

Piercing my orange skin.

My neighbour Percy

was plucked clean

the very next day.

I heard his voice aching in the wind

as they dragged him away.

The beasts on two feet.

The beasts that came

when the orange glow

filled the air and the sky exploded

with stars combusting everywhere.

The next day they took Pauline,

the pumpkin of my dreams.

Dewdrops leaked over my golden cheeks.

As I heard her sweet voice

fading into the autumn breeze.

Now they have me…

I’m in a strange room.

A surgery. A morbid captivity.

I think this is it my final entry

I’m close to my doom.

I see orange remains

splattered over the side.

A sharp tool and a fiery doorway.

And... oh my god!

I see...

I see...

Pauline...

Her face mutilated

into a desperate scream.

Her insides burning,

and a cooking pot with her innards

boiling away.

I curse these beings on two feet.

One day they will pay...

Timeworm

The clocks all stopped momentarily.

A second or two,

just a tick over the grand

hands of eternity.

Just a grain of sand

in the hourglass of our day.

Time froze like

an ice age of seconds.

Everyone stopped on their toes.

Heartbeats

ceased for a solo beat.

Blood stopped its flow

like a blockage had gotten into

the veins of the universe.

Then as quick as it stopped

it tocked again.

A blip, a glitch

in the skin of reality.

No one knew,

they just continued as before

oblivious to the hole

through which the darkness poured,

the torn universe stretched and warped.

Atomic clocks blinked alarms

but scientists ignored the sounds.

Just mixed signals,

misread past particles

on the tuning of the cogs of time.

Just a glitch.

Just a glitch.

That’s what they repeated,

a snagged thread of hope

in a world we knew little about.

They didn’t tell the masses,

kept it to the upper classes.

Everyone oblivious

to the second lost to the dark mist.

The conspiracy reddit didn’t combust.

The world carried on.

No-one mentioned the lost second again

but it changed everything.

The whole world was off axis,

the stars swung past us

a little faster than we could ever have known.

The moon was a fragment to the right,

just a stitch out of place in the night.

Tides swept twice as hard, rains fell upside down

but our memories were scrambled and fried

so, we carried on walking the streets of our towns.

Just a glitch.

Just a glitch.

Or was it?

Had the world short circuited?

The world froze for a second

but in that time

the sleep demons thrived,

infecting dreams until sleep was deprived.

The hive mind delivering their song in a hum.

The one who lives

in the galactic swirls

had come down to snack.

Now time was all out of whack.

Timelines diverged,

memories deleted

replaced with defective storylines

from a place and time

not here or anywhere near.

A mind worm eating through time

and we are the main course

just boiling away in the pan

oblivious to the heat gradually rising.

A flower and a snowflake

Beauty sees the beauty

that lives and thrives

it doesn’t see the darkness

that enshrouds our lives.

It sees the wonder

of those clouds.

It doesn’t look through its eyes

expecting lies, expecting to be

weighed down by life,

or to hear the sounds of

hurt that can come

from a wicked mouth.

It finds instead the joy within

and it builds its home therein

and welcomes the darkness

to break bread. To share,

to see the beauty in its own skin.

A snowflake doesn’t

see the world like we,

it sees it sparkling and bright,

it sees every delicate thread,

each individual layer

and ever unique spread.

It sees the flower

with a look of wonder,

and the flower looks upon her

and sees the petals of another.

They both see beauty

in the individuality.

They hear the magic

of their unique spectral tonality,

but they

also see the connections,

the magic

in the universal

reverberations.

If we stare out through

negative eyes,

only looking for the worst

and the grimmest times,

then is it any wonder

we see a sun that doesn’t shine

bright, or a world that doesn’t

feel as full of light?

Is it any wonder

we see negativity in the air?

When in truth there is love

floating through

every atom that we share.

So, look upon the world

with positivity.

We create the world

we want to see

and we have the power

to bring beauty to even

the murkiest city.

So, if we look positively,

be the love that opens

its arms to all possibility,

When we share what

makes us beautiful,

when we see the similarities,

whilst we celebrate the individuality

and orchestrate the choir of

a world where we are all equal.

Then we can make this

a world that is perfect

for you and for me.
