Under the shadow
of a blackened moon
I stand. Alone.
Tides pulled from my eyes,
a boat capsized.
My smile lies under the depths
and I can’t hide the sadness
that floats inside.
It’s a lonely walk from this shore
when the only sound
is the grind of footsteps
upon sandy ground,
wondering aloud as you walk,
where did I lose the will to shout?
When did my fight walk out?
When did I just stop and sit
head in hands
crying my heart onto the sand?
It’s a lonely walk when blistered feet
give up and weep
at the feeling that nothing
good sits wherever this long
coastal path meets
the horizon.
It just twists through foggy sea mists
making it harder to see what good
could greet where the path leads.
Missing the feeling of love
when all you can do is hope it exists
somewhere in a kiss that
sits upon the breeze.
It’s a lonely world when the pathway
never lets you rest, it just reaches
into the clouds pulling them down
to enshroud you.
It’s a lonely place when angels fall
and you are left just walking alongside
the demons that crawl on their bellies
under a shadow moon that hides
its beauty from all.
It’s a lonely calling when it feels
like the sky is falling
and you have no hard hat
nor umbrella to protect from the
crumbling remnants of a heaven
you didn’t believe in.
The only heaven you could see
was in the eyes of beauty,
and now it feels like she
will never see the smiles
that live within.
You just keep walking.
The momentous sea
of love you know from dreams
where you swam in its deepest blue
lies so far ahead of you,
across the mountainous terrain,
through the blustery wind
and torrential rain.
You can’t even see it waving
in the distance,
just this path that is forever
twisting and turning through its existence.
All the while your heart is forever yearning
for the one that doesn't know your name
Doesn't know the flame you hold out for them.
So, you keep on moving. Believing
that one day you will wade
through those waves
