Embrace the city

I embrace my city,

and she holds me

with her diversity.

The bloodstream of life

which flows through her veins.

The festivals, The vibrant colours

and scents of far-off lands,

which blows through the air

In the perfume she wears.

The way she sings

in accents sung

in loving tongue.

The warming smiles

when holidays come.

The lights, the fire, the music, the attire

of this beauty I call home.

The way every story

is told in a new sunrise

over different skies

from the highrise buildings

to the green pastures

that sit around.

All showing the beauty of life

when we embrace

rather than fight.

I adore the magic

she gifts through

the loving smiles

she paints on the lips of those

who share the city with you.

The sky adorned with sequins

and diamond tiaras, glowing

fireworks and sparklers,

during Diwali night.

The joyous lights,

smiles beaming wide

over the golden mile,

where the city excitedly holds your hand

and dances to the Bollywood sounds.

The colours of Holi bringing the

rainbow to her face as the children celebrate

with chalk dust images scrawled

on the pages of the city.

The joy of Eid feeding the

seeds of life that grow

like a flowerbed with petals so bright.

The celebration of Caribbean magic

when the streets come alive

during carnival time.

The city shines with life so divine.

She feeds with cuisines of plenty

we can explore the continents

through our taste buds.

Our bellies never empty.

Just take a walk and be led

gently by the scents in the air

and you will find something new

that excites you.

A fusion of creativity and flair.

A gastronomical extravaganza

Laid out on her table,

Grab a seat and enjoy the

story of the world told in food,

to show she cares.
