Wake from the daydream
that you have been floating
through in a haze.
Whilst you've been
blinded in a daze,
the world had changed.
No more does that same sun shine,
No longer can we dance
now the rhythm has gone.
We’re walking in a freak show
and the mayhem has already begun.
Quit believing in the melody.
Stop thinking someone
will come to save us.
We're already walking
in a nightmare malady.
A world on the cusp.
Did the time streams get screwed?
We've awoken in a world
that's so far beyond broken
any semblance of hope is skewed,
Nothing more than a token
that has been left battered and bruised.
Wake up.
You've been thinking of fields
whilst walking through dirt,
you've painted everything rainbow
when the colour ran away long ago.
Those forests, were just
backwater towns,
demolished,
steel skeletons and foundations
torn from the ground.
Dusty brick, crumbled,
jagged and unfit for life,
jutting out like a bear pit of spikes.
Yet you saw vines, a world of treelines.
You saw outlines of a future
that you could never find.
You see doves flying high,
butterflies gliding gracefully,
but your hazy view hides the truth.
Bats come to roost
in these ruins of memory.
Your rose-tinted view
hides the unjust from you.
The smoke rising in the rubble.
The sirens calling out to say
there has been trouble.
In your daydream it's perfectly serene.
I sometimes wish
that it was a place I could be.
A daydream somewhere
where the sky kisses the sea.
