The watchers

Humankind is always

on the brink, it seems,

just a blink away

from oblivion.

A sinking feeling,

drawing them under,

whilst the stink of hate

permeates through the air they wander.

Humans are always on the edge

like the tension is being pulled tighter

on a guitar string, tuning itself

into some cosmic anger.

They make a pledge

for one team or another,

be it land, religion, sex or colour.

They cover themselves

with the belief that anything

outside of their norm

must be smothered.

Everyone else must conform.

This is our law they mutter.

Humankind. The word alone

has kindness within,

but when that kindness isn't home,

only inhumane darkness remains.

It floods their withered brains.

The headlines fan flames.

A snapshot of a world

that they perceive as broken.

If only they would look

with their eyes wide open,

they would see the beauty

that sits just to the side of the hate.

If they opened a book,

they would see in clear writing,

their fate. But alas for humanity

it may already be too late.

We have been watching

since the dawn of time.

We saw as you killed

for the very first time.

We see the way you surround

with only those that think your way.

We saw the rise of the kkk,

the nazis, the bnp.

We saw how you treated people

that you percieve as unfit to walk

the same unlit pathways,

drink the same water,

breathe the same air,

and we can't sit by any longer.

So today is your judgement day.

We will make it quick.

You see we are the true life.

Our green skin is the only right.

The way you humans talk is impolite,

not talking in our language

makes us froth up inside.

We don't want your kind

crossing our space borders.

You will take up our jobs,

create disorder. We are not racist but...

We just don't think we can coexist.

When clearly, we are the greatest

and you humans are just a pest.
