Waking up feeling unique
the first cup of tea
the moment of glee when you realise it's a Saturday
or when the sun breaks through clouds of grey
the power of a thunderstorm
whilst you are safe and warm
watching as lightning cracks and the noises crash
the sky shatters and the rains lash
like a firework display
watched from the comfort of your own duvet
An afternoon with friends
or an evening that never ends
the party that you feel a part of
not a bystander looking to run off
the simple pleasure of a conversation
or a bit of flirtation without fearful palpitations
The memories of days spent in moments of bliss
like the one with your very first kiss
or those where happiness is all around
on top of the world nothing could drag you down
When you get into bed, tired as hell
cocooned within its perfect shell
the warm quilt drives you to sleep
without the chore of counting sheep
when you awake with a poem fully formed in your head
your internal muse awake whilst you were asleep in bed
The beauty of a forest, the waves on a sea
the city, a bustling hive of activity
all different parts of me
the beauty that I picture with eyes closed tight
she always amazes
igniting a fire that blazes
right through my thoughts straight onto my pages
Brilliant things
these are but a few
I could never list every single one
so many to sort through
added to every day
with each new experience I have lived
all the lessons learned, the new things I have received
or all the smiles, that I see on faces that sing
a brilliant thing, this world it is everything
Thanks For Reading.
Peace and Love.
Kyle.
This piece was written for a project set up by Word!
one of the countries longest running spoken word events
I'll let them explain...
" During these difficult times we at WORD! are continuing to work with our partners at the NHS and BrightSparks to support people's mental health and wellbeing.
We are inviting people to join in with a multi media project called 'Every Brilliant Thing' - named after and inspired by Duncan Macmillan and Jonny Donahoe's worldwide tour and HBO commissioned documentary.
Every week we give you an inspiration, you produce poems, reflections etc inspired by the theme.
This week's inspiration 'Every Brilliant Thing' itself."
