Front line, last line of defence
the unsung heroes of our dark days
Nightingale flies
as heroes rise
to save the weak, ill and fraught lives
they lay down their time, take us in arms
to give us hope in times of alarm
No man's land as bullets ring
Nightingale sings
dodging rockets, the brave
not there to kill
there to save
a lamp through the gunpowder skies
heroes rise
when we are on the back foot
and the battle is almost up
they fight on
with hearts bare
not to harm
to give care
4am hospital ward by pale moonlight
the screams in the night
as terror takes a hand with its cold fingers of ice
the nurse there to give a warming smile
melting the frigid touch of the demon’s hand so hostile
Nightingale cries
as heroes rise and lost hearts say goodbye
Nightingale calls
put themselves in the firing line
when all around, the nation falls
just assumes that they will be there
against the invisible enemies - hurt, pain and despair
not all heroes wear a cape, or hide behind masks
but ours wear the badge of the NHS with pride
Heroes heed the call, an army against the invisible enemy
pick up arms, but not bombs and guns
our government thanks with a depleted budget
but when our backs are against the wall, they still run
no idea where bombs will drop
the protection they have, not much
funding stalled to a halt
but still they stand tall in face of danger
ready to be there in our darkest hours
it's their calling
as Nightingale flies high, soaring
Nation is falling.
time to stand
disease rages
air borne plagues
sent to crush
these heroes don’t rush
they smile, though inside tears well
listen when the world doesn't hear
give time even when theirs is low
the frontline, our lifeline
I thank you for being kind-hearted
the Nightingales sing amongst the landmines
Thanks For Reading.
Peace & Love.
Especially to our Healthcare workers
who are doing an amazing job in difficult times
