Praying to modern day deities
of social media and TV
falling prey to their slavery
locked away in a prison without a key
is it heresy to say that you don't believe?
a blasphemy to want peace rather than mere pain relief
The anxiety, failing to be perfect in every way
yet, you only see the best or worst moments of anyone's day
comparing yourself to an image that is fiction
the moments in-between - lost to the rubbish bin of history’s
omission
You put yourself in front of hundreds of people
to be judged as an equal, when inside you feel like a freak,
as weak and feeble
the obsession with scrolling, to get the news of the day
the plates of food are out of the way, oh wait now the cats are
on display
gets you all of the likes, posting videos of animals at play
and likes are gold dust, to those that need to be centre
stage
We are obsessive with our socials, yet barely speak in
public
an odd sense of belonging this online bubble, this
antisocial republic
must check my feed, it's like a disease a constant need to
ingest the news
like a drug addict, you get the shakes, without your phone
screen fix - its a case of the blues
We are a world away from yesterday’s dreams
where we lock ourselves in front of hypnosis screens
until we can’t focus, and our mouths become dry
lose the power of speech, or the will to try
as we lock ourselves up in our prison with no walls
just a flickering screen to dull our screamed calls
The anxiety induced by a comment sent
can wreak havoc with the brain, did they understand what I
meant
was it taken in the right tone?
could it have been misread in a hurtful sense
what does
that emoji even show?
this tree of social anxiety has grown a new branch
not just the outside world that sprouts leaves
online the walls are crumbling in an anxiety avalanche
and we are being sown the seeds
Thanks For Reading.
Peace & Love.
