Time Machine

Prepare the time machine
we’re going back to an old date
flick the switches
start the engines
I swirl
through the curling mists of time
cluttered memories fly by
crashing through crystal window years
fragmenting around my ears

We reach a day
when sunlight trickled through treetop shade
like a mysterious alien wave
we were too entranced to notice
too enchanted by loves hypnosis
lost in dance we never saw the signs looming
lost in romance we never heard the sirens booming
we just lay under the tree lined sky
a canopy keeping our dreams from flying high
we slept in the cool night air
and drank in the morning birdsong fanfare

I flip a switch, time lurches forward a bit
a few months as the clocks tick
here we sit
still love plays a beat
but its hit or miss
the first blooms have turned out to be weeds
they strangle the roots of our love trees
kisses laced with anger
passion filled with resentment
etched lines of love
sentiment left on a park bench
once treasured
but like the story that grows
now weathered

Tear lined eyes find the dial
turn to a year and push the lever full throttle
love left the room
but somehow, we remained
shackled, chained to a life of gloom
one where a word was enough to start a storm like rain
a world where time sank down the drain
we just existed to be
we lived to pass a day
but we tried to find light
we would sometimes laugh all night
then we would fight
a cycle
recycling old lines to try to find some magic

Flip the years forward
through the haze
hurt, my reward
I see a fragile man, a shell
barely a shadow of his former self
walking through hell
as fire ravages his mind
alone now
the magic of a watered-down love
withered
like a flower devoid of care
lost
no hope to share

One last trip, to yesterday
been forever and a day
since I thought of you
all the pain and misery
swept away in a flood
lost in the history books
all the tear lined eyes weary looks
the lies that you told never stuck
now I can see hope in the distance
I hear songs of living
I feel love in my heart
ready for giving

Thanks For Reading.
Peace & Love.
Kyle.
