Shadowman

I was born from the mouth of eternity,

a rip upon reality, a crushing of its fragility.

I was not supposed to be.

I am not meant to walk these lands.

I was never supposed to witness your seas.

I am shadows. I am the light taken away.

I am darkness in the passages

of some book you will never see.

I was born from the ashes

of a previous day

like a new sun rising at dawn

then exploding into yesterday,

leaving behind

only memories of light

flittering through

the shades of history.

I left the scattered dust of my past

like the fractured glass of the galaxy.

I let it cut into the fleshy world we inhabit

whilst I let the world bleed me.

I was born

from screams

and bad dreams,

from the aching void

between tears that weep.

I am the shadow man.

No light can breach my skin.

I’m the man in black,

almost invisible

until I want to be seen.

I was born.

No. Ripped from a world

that cannot exist.

A place where only darkness emits.

Where light is a blip on the universal charts,

and only ice grows in people's hearts.

I belong to a place

that is not of these sands

I belong to the space

in between the grains that sift

through the hands.

For I am

the shadows

that fall where you stand.

I am the shadow man,

the man in black,

the creature you fear

when you hear a sound behind your back.

The bump in the night.

I devour the light,

I unsettle the air,

I destroy all good,

with a smile and a leer.

Never turn your back,

for I will replace the shadow

walking your path

then you'll never escape the grasp

of the dreaded man in black

as I leach at your life

until your very last gasp.
