Why does this song have to play?

Why does this song have to play?
the radio DJ must have had it in for me today
picking the one song in the world, from every possible choice
he plays the one, that makes me hear your voice
I feel the lump in my throat grow, starts the size of a pea
but builds as the seconds flow, as the first chords ring out tauntingly
it grows to an apple, a pear, a watermelon sat there
in my throat a veritable banquet choking the air

And as the chorus shouts, I feel those old memories living out
like I'm there - back in time, in a sentimental moment of doubt
I wonder, was there ever any love at all
and as the cymbals crash I feel a tear fall

Why does this song have to play?
in a supermarket of all places, reminds of walking around aisles some lost day
pacing, as I float in and out of my mind, the music a vortex to a long forgotten time
when we used to walk these consumer corridors, of produce and plastic wrapped dreams
all of the things we aspired to be, all of our hopes in between
and I feel pain in my chest, the feeling of an old broken heart put to test
as the drum beat thuds - my heart starts to revive, reverberating echoes inside
but as of yet I'm still blinded by all the tears cried

Why does this song have to play?
in my mind most of the day, an ear worm buried deep, using my head as a hideaway
the words keep on repeating, giving me fleeting visions of a time when my love was true
before the pain and misery flowed through, when it was all still new
and I feel my eyes fill, years of hurt distilled into tears to wash away the grime that blinds
and as the singer belts out her final lines, I feel freed from those shackles and ties that bind

Living in Luxury (with video)

Tell me again how we live in luxury
this modern day life of throwaway absurdity
where its a privilege to queue for food
whilst getting knowing glances judging you
when we can't face our neighbours, as they know..
they have seen your recycle bag and the contents it shows
the tins of food bank sustenance that we can't live without
the cheap cans of poison we use to wash it down, to blot it out

Treat us like we live the high life, in our palaces in the sky
the high rise lives, lived in towers that are despised,
a blot on the landscape the rich man sighs, as he pulls up to his gated mansion of lies
and as the flames rise, the crocodile tears fall from those same eyes
the combustible walls fall, the lives inside lost to all
cost cutting measures to save a few pounds, to pile on the mountains - already too tall
poor lives matter less than the upper classes
this the lesson that the newspapers provide to the masses

We live in luxurious times, when we can't get by without a personal loan shark
a man that wont think twice about kneecapping you in an alley after dark
minimum wage welfare state, feels unfair that our lives are lived as wage slaves
no set retirement date, cant stop must keep going, work till you drop, dig your own graves
cash flow slows - it circles the plughole then down it goes
and if you want help from the bank, they like to say no
but will bill you for the time it took to tell you so
lining the pockets of stockholders and corporate suits
whilst they treat us like dirt on their polished shiny boots

Live in luxury, so why must I ask, do we need to find escape at every path we take
why do we fall into the lake of tears that addictions create
drink, drugs, sex, any way to escape from the void that surrounds
to dull down the screaming sounds, or the thudding noise that pounds
we watch television shows to see how the other half live their lives
but its less the other half - than the small percentage that hold us at the point of their knives
thieves and vampires sucking us dry, bleeding us of our rights
and we just sit back and take it because they call themselves knights

Loves Apocalypse

When the sea sets her armies against me
and the land devours me in her belly
when the air takes the breath that I breathe
plants wont allow me to leave, the vines wont give reprieve
when animals surround and taunt
humanity laughs and points
will you be standing with them, joining in their ridicule
or will you hold my hand as I let my heart spill forth so lyrical

When rivers flood my heart
and mountains collapse
cascading earthquakes cause me to gasp
when volcanic eruptions clog up the lungs
and snow storms block out the sun
will you dig in the grime with me, to make our way through
or are you primed to just leave, a dream I once knew

When days become night
and the lights have blown out
will you look to your right
see me standing proud, will your love shout
or will your heart be running away
to find a new world in which to stay

Whatever the choice I'll hold the memories with me
keep the moments in my grasp, a shelter from the fallout debris
I'll hold your words deep inside, like a comfort blanket for the heart
let them hold me when the long cold nights start
your voice in my ears, cuts through the enveloping fear
I'll let it tell me sweet stories, of yesterdays cheers
a tear in my eye but a smile on the lips
for all of the magical journeys on the road to this apocalypse

Snap - With Video!

I felt it snap - mind cracked like an elastic band
pulled back and slapped.
I fell flat, the room spun and I slammed the deck
arms and legs ache, I was a wreck
a ship that hit an iceberg - a titanic waste of space
but I hadn't yet hit my coup de grace
my mind sifting through its final traces
as I remember past disgraces

I felt it snap - like a feedback loop on a guitar amp tuned
to a frequency that only reaches my ears - I felt doomed
this was all too soon. thirty three and my life was at sea
a frantic swim against tidal waves, the seagulls laughed with glee
the sharks circled me, I was thirsty,
surrounded by an ocean of water yet all I wanted was poison to me
a quick release, some whiskey and beer to take the memories and set them free
And I'm face down on the sandy dirt, I flounder
like an upside down fish out of water, I flap and slap the ground

I felt it snap - like a slow motion car crash
that you can see coming, but cant avoid the moment that your head hits the dash
like running in a nightmare world, where the ground is clingy
or sitting on a river flowing towards a waterfall in just a rubber dinghy
my mind was a mess, an overflowing table of distress and regrets
stained with the stale smell of month old liquor and cigarettes
I ignored the threats
and I felt it snap, my mind, my body, my soul fell flat
on the ground scrambling to find the pieces that scattered
the parts of my mind that mattered,
the remnants of that old life - like a glass forever shattered

Who Is The Beast?

They walk the wild lands, the tough terrain
on the prowl, searching once again
for someone to devour, to cut down in their prime
to encircle and ensnare - they crawl through the dirt and grime

The wild one catches a scent, an enemy combatant
a predator making a challenge, calling for battle
or just an innocent who strolled into their domain
the taste of blood is on their lips again

Wild eyed beasts howl in a united cry
a sound that terrifies
they taste the air - fear, hate and despair
a scream as the blood is shed and angers flair

The watcher walks on wondering long, why do they hate so much
what do these beasts fear in the world that causes them to rush
into a frenzy so deadly
fire sticks explode with thunderous smoke; the sounds ring around so heavy
and from above the shiny winged birds let loose, a deadly barrage across the land
turning the ground into glass shards and hot blood soaked sands

Walking away, the lone wolf sticks to the shadows
avoids the brilliant bright rays of the full moon, doesn't want to be exposed
just another vicious pack, a sinister human attack
sent to carve apart the dark night - fire light pierces the sky of black
and yet they call me a wild animal
but who is really the beast?  the hyenas would say its laughable
and I would have to agree

Scramble In The Ashes

Scramble through the ashes, fighting for a chance
searching for love in the ruins of a bomb blast romance
looking for a silver lining in the clouds of dust
reaching out a hand, in a sea of distrust

Looking for love in all the wrong places
in the wreckage of a car crash slow dance - so many unfulfilled races
I see so many faces, none that sets my heart pacing
one that makes me smile and leaves my voice shaking

Digging through wasteland sands, trying to find the way to hopes door
but all I can feel is the heat of the earths core,
a taste in my throat I cant ignore
a rotten rancid meal - a heart left to congeal
under the rays of a blood red sun - a soul still to heal

I crawl through the wreckage of a broken heart
torn down like a demolition site, a building ripped apart
the bulldozers have crashed the walls, the barriers smashed
I stand defenceless, ready to have my hopes dashed

I walk the cemetery of dead end love - still hear the corpses talking
whispering their messages of hate, I don't succumb to the sounds I just keep on walking
it just becomes one with the sounds of hope that float in the air
like petals blowing in the storm of a solar flare

Love is somewhere digging, searching, scrambling for me
maybe one day we will meet, until then ill just keep a seat free
one where we can share our wishes, our dreams - a future to celebrate
fate makes a strange playmate, so I keep the seat free for my soul mate

What Keeps Demons Awake?

What makes my demons lay awake at night
thoughts like a speeding train
causes them such fright
is it that their work may be in vain
that the path I'm taking is right

What gives the voices sleepless hours
makes their bones shiver in terror
is it that their magic is soured and they lack the powers
to force me to surrender to stormy weather

What set my enemies teeth to grind
cause them to doubt their calling
is it that I wont allow them to ruin my mind
or stop these wings from soaring

What causes my ghosts to cower in fear
only appear in corners - never standing clear
is it that they realise their sneers wont make me disappear
or force me to flee in a sea of tears

In the hell that they walk in, is my name spoke of in caution
is it used as a warning, to put fear amongst those watching
the rotten, toxic and distorted - that failure is an option
that not every mind falls, to their power so obnoxious
